Seville. Seville Cathedral

The main thing shown by the webcam of Hotel Alfonso VIII is the famous Seville Cathedral. This cathedral, the largest in Europe, was built over the course of 100 years, during the 15th century, on the site of the old Seville mosque.

In addition to magnificent architecture, the cathedral has a large collection of works of art. Here you can find pictures of such outstanding artists as Murillo, Velazquez, de Zurbaran and Goya. A large number of legends are built around this temple, and real facts are often intertwined with fiction. For example, it is believed that the cross of the cathedral is made of the first gold brought by Columbus from America.

In the center of the image, we can see one of the main buildings on the property of the cathedral, the Giralda Bell Tower. The rich patterns and ornaments of this 114-meter tower perfectly complement the architectural ensemble of the Seville Cathedral. But, they were built in different epochs. The belfry appeared here at the turn of the 12th to 13th centuries and was, at first, a minaret. The superstructure, which we can now see at the top of the bell tower, was added almost 400 years later.
