Giswil. Brienzer Rothorn

The camera in the Sörenberg ski resort is located on the lower station of the Eisee-Brienzer Rothorn cableway and is pointed toward the top of the Brienzer Rothorn. Along this famous mountain passes the border of three Swiss cantons—Lucerne, Bern and Obwalden. We are in the territory of the latter.

Behind the camera is Lake Eisee, which gave the name to the cable car station, as well as the mountain hotel, Berghaus Eisee. The cost of skiing on the tracks that you see on the screen is 50 Swiss francs (about 47 euros) per day.

A mountain railway, one of the sights of Switzerland, is laid from Brienne Lake to Brienzer Rothhorn. This 8-kilometer rack railway was built in 1892. Preliminary calculations were not justified, and in the first year, only 5,000 tourists went to the top of the Brienzer Rothorn, instead of the planned 25,000. The situation changed after two world wars. From 1952 to 1990, Brienz-Rothorn railway remained the only mountain railway with locomotives. But, even now, tourists use this unique way to the top of the mountain.
