La Push. James Island

In front of us are the islands off the Atlantic coast in the town of La Push. The main and the biggest of them is James Island, located in the estuary of the Quillayute River. It got its name in honor of the first man to set foot on its shores in the late nineteenth century.

Another island located not far from La Push, is not in the camera shot. Because of its size and proximity to the larger island, is was named Little James.

For a long time the island had been used as a platform for the cultivation of crops for the people of the continent, as well as to observe the whales that live off the coast. Now only the indigenous people of the Quileute tribe can access James Island.
