Urbana. Champaign Aviation Museum

The small airport of the American city of Urbana has the Champaign Aviation Museum. Here, you can see real aircraft, such as the B-25, B-17, C-47, A-26 and Fairchild F-24, as well as get acquainted with historical documents. Volunteers and museum staff set an ambitious goal—to restore the legendary Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (“flying fortress”) to working condition.

Two cameras of the museum show the process of reconstruction of the first serial bomber of the Second World War. Its last flight was in Brazil, in 1968.

The Champaign Museum is located in the northern part of the airfield. They work from 10 am to 4 pm every day except Sunday. The entrance is free, and voluntary donations are accepted for the restoration of the Flying Fortress.

In the museum, you can buy souvenirs, such as branded t-shirts, coins and hats. But most importantly, you can reserve a place to fly on the North American B-25 Mitchell (a two-engine, five-seater, medium-range bomber). It will cost about 400-500 dollars.
