Ellmau. Hartkaiser Station
Hartkaiser, a station of the ski resort of Ellmau, is ideal for families. Since the slopes of mount Hartkaiser are gentle, experienced skiers and snowboarders rarely come to Elmau. It’s good for beginners and holidaymakers with children because they will not be interfered with by skiers rushing past at high speed.
You can get from resort Austrian villages to the Hartkaiser station by several routes. This is possible due to a single ski pass for all cableways of nearby resorts. At the end of the last century, a real railway operated here, and every one of its cars could admit up to 161 people. This lift was dismantled in 2015, due to its high cost and inconvenience in servicing.
It was replaced by a modern funicular with ten-seat cabins. The journey time by the new Hartkaiserbahn takes twice as long as by rail, but thanks to the panoramic windows of the cabins, tourists have an opportunity to enjoy the Alpine scenery during the 8-minute journey to the top of Hartkaiser.
The camera at the station shows us a mountain restaurant and a large area in front of it where the tourists, who have just arrived on Hartkaiser from different directions, gather.
