Obertauern. Panorama of the Resort

Obertauern is one of the many villages in the Alpine valleys of Austria. We can see the panorama of this small community from the bottom station of Gamsleiten 2. Experienced skiers may be amused by this small double-seat lift, moving at a speed of 2.5 meters per second. But don’t forget that this Doppelmayr funicular was built in 1986.

We are 250 meters above the town, so we can see most of the hotels of the community. Obertauern is quite a large and developed ski resort, so there are hotels and apartments here for every taste. Mostly four-star hotels are built here, but there are also cheap options, such as Pension Weinberger.

In ancient times, the valley where Obertauern is located was part of the Roman Empire’s trade route. This is evidenced by the numerous artifacts found during archaeological excavations. Now, people come to Obertauern from different parts of the world, like Slovenia, Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic.

It is interesting that, at first, Obertauern wasn’t a ski zone. Instead, it was a popular place for auto and motor racing.
