Schwaz District. Schlegeisspeicher
We can see one of the Ziller hydroelectric reservoirs. Schlegeisspeicher (or just Schlegeis) is located at an altitude of 1782 meters above sea level and covers an area of about two square kilometers.
The huge dam, located in the right part of the image, was built here in the 1960s. It is an arch-gravity dam with 700 measuring devices. The height of the dam is 131 meters and the crest length is 725 meters. You can walk over the dam as part of a tour group. The tours are held there from June to October, so you need to plan your trip in advance.
For those tourists who want to stay close to the reservoir for a couple of days to carefully examine the artificial pond, there are several hotels and restaurants in the vicinity of Schlegeis. For example, a mountain hut, Dominikushütte — Zillertaler Alpen, offers double rooms for only 50 euros per night, the price includes half board.
