St. Veit in Defereggen. Panorama of the Village
The village of Sankt Veit in Defereggen is located in the Austrian Defereggental valley. The village is considered to be the highest mountain village (about 1.5 kilometers) in East Tyrol.
Throughout its history, Sankt Veit in Defereggen was a good place for agriculture. The convenient location of the village on a sunny mountain slope allowed potatoes to grow here. Now, local people are not interested in agriculture, as the main economic branch here is tourism.
In the center, you see one of the oldest buildings of the community, St. Vitus Church. This church was built in the fifteenth century. Not many buildings in Sankt Veit in Defereggen are so old, although a few houses of the same era can still be found here, and you can even look inside them.
