Gravellona Toce. Mount Mottarone

Any place in Gravellona Toce offers wonderful views of the high Alpine peaks. The southern exit from town is no exception. It is located in the valley between Mount Mottarone and Monte Zucchero. On the screen, we can see mountain peaks in the eastern part of the valley, but we will focus on Mount Mottarone.

Its height is 1,491 meters above sea level. To get that high, you do not need to search for winding mountain paths, you can use the services of a funicular that will take you practically to the very top. The cableway connects Mottarone with the coastal town of Stresa, so from Gravellona Toce, you should go in the direction of Lake Maggiore.

From the “granite mountain,” you can see a famous pond, as well as the majestic Alps. The mountain is also interesting because at different times during archaeological excavations, the tools of the ancient German tribe of the Lombards were found on its slopes.

At the beginning of the last century, ski tourism began to actively develop on Mottarone. Skiers have been coming here since 1908, when Grand Hotel Mottarone unexpectedly began to work in the winter. In the summer, the slopes of Mottarone are occupied by cyclists.
