Ornavasso. Community Panorama

We are heading to northwest Italy, to Ornavasso. The town with 3,500 inhabitants, unlike the neighboring coastal resorts on Lake Maggiore, is not very popular with tourists, nevertheless, it interests history buffs. The town is on the Linea Cadorna, consisting of fortification structures, which were meant to protect Italy from the attack of the Austrian army, through Switzerland, during the First World War.

On the slopes of Monte Massone, from where we can see Ornavasso, you can look at Forte di Bara. Now, near the former military facilities, tourist trails are laid, which have become popular with mountain bike fans.

In the city itself, there are also many places devoted to the war years of the beginning of the last century. Most museums tell about the course of the First World War in northern Italy. If you are interested in medieval buildings, then Ornavasso can surprise even the most demanding guest. Once in the city, be sure to find out where the Ornavasso watchtower is. It was built in the 14th century, by the Barbavara family. Today, the tower is converted into a bell tower, and in the Middle Ages, tower observers informed the local population of fires and raids of enemies from Switzerland.
