Verbania. Col Nudo
We are heading to the border of Switzerland and Italy where, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, tourism is actively developing. This camera, in the sailing club Intra, shows us the lake, ships floating near the shore, as well as high mountains on the opposite bank of the lake.
One of the highest peaks that we can see on the screen is Mount Nudo. Its height is 1,237 meters above sea level. Next to the lake, there are other mountains — Sasso del Ferro, Monte Crocione, Pizzoni di Laveno and others. Nudo refers to the mountain chain of Lugano Prealps and is located in the province of Lombardy, Varese.
On the way to the top of Nudo, tourists pass through the picturesque valleys of Valtravaglia and Valcuvia. On the screen, we can see dense forests on the slopes of the mountains. But only a few decades ago, there was much less vegetation, hence, the name of the mountain, Nudo, meaning “Naked.”
Through the steep slopes of the mountains, on the opposite side of the lake, is laid a 1.5-kilometer tunnel, Via Europa. It connects Laveno and Castelveccana, the communities of Lombardy.
