Verbania. Mausoleum of General Luigi Cadorna
The camera, in the building of the municipality of the community of Verbania, is directed toward one of the main monuments of the Italian resort. In 1932, right on the shore of Lago Maggiore, a mausoleum was built in which the remains of General Luigi Cadorna are still on display. The lower part of the monument, with stairs, columns, and sculptures of the military, also includes the sarcophagus of General Cadorna. The upper part of the monument is a rectangular tower.
The porphyry sarcophagus of the general can be accessed from all four sides of the monument. Twelve military sculptures, which seem to protect the mausoleum, show different types of troops, infantrymen, sailors, snipers and so on. Interestingly, the architects of the memorial and sculptures were different masters.
The burial of the general in the mausoleum took place on Saturday, May 21, 1932 (four years after his death). At the opening ceremony of the mausoleum, there were representatives of the king, the Duke of Aosta, as well as members of the fascist party, which Cadorna had not joined until the end of his life. Also, there were at least 8,000 veterans of the First World War, according to some sources, from all over the country.
In addition to the mausoleum, you can also see the beautiful embankment of the Pallanza area on the screen, and in clear weather, on the left, above the coastal street Corso Zanitello, the top of Sasso del Ferro (1,062 meters above sea level) appears in the distance.
