Vilnius. Švento Jono Street

Another camera of the tNarutis Hotel shows us the street, Švento Yono, leading from Pílíes to Vilnius University and the bell tower of the St. John’s Church. The first cam shows us the ancient Pilies Street.

Švento Yono has been renamed several times. It used to be called Svyatoyanskaya, Ivanovskaya, and Balis Sruoga in the Soviet period. The length of the street is about 200 meters, but every inhabitant of Vilnius knows it. Despite the fact that the first mention of this street dates back to the 16th century, Švento Yono appeared here much earlier.

The high bell tower, which we can see in the background, has 5 tiers, and its height reaches 68 meters. It was built in the 16th century, but it was destroyed and rebuilt several times. To the north of the tower is the oldest and largest higher educational institution of Lithuania-Vilnius University, opened in the middle of the 16th century.

In addition, you can find such beautiful buildings as the Palace of the Pats (Polish Embassy), Ertl’s House, the aul of Vilnius University and other architectural monuments of the city.
