Zaandam. Zaanse Schans Museum
At 20 kilometers from Amsterdam in Zaandam suburbs a unique open-air museum created in the 60s of the last century is located. It includes a lot of samples of wooden architecture of the Dutch, which were brought there from all over the country.
Because Zaandam used to be the major flour milling center, in Zaanse Schans museum there are mills in which grain was processed into flour for several centuries. Many of them work to this day. Among the other items of this extraordinary museum visitors often single out a saw mill, a paint mill and an oil mill.
Behind the museum we can see the river Zaan lined with the cities of Zaanstad community.
You can get there by train, which runs from Amsterdam to Zaandam.
