Volcano. Mauna Loa Volcano. View from the Mauna Loa Observatory

In order to get acquainted with the famous volcanic scenery of the island of Hawaii, we are offered webcams installed in the Weather Observatory of Mauna Loa. This atmospheric station was opened in the middle of the last century, at an altitude of 3,397 meters. Since then, all atmospheric changes that occur on Mauna Loa are recorded and carefully analyzed by the staff of the observatory.

The observatory is located north of the summit of Mauna Loa. The choice of the site for construction is due to the fact that Mauna Loa is the most distant from any continent, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The observatory includes several structures. Among them, the most famous with tourists are the domes in which the solar sensors are located.

The observatory is developing and expanding. On the other slopes of Mauna Loa, new observation points are being built, as well as modern scientific equipment, such as Keck telescopes.
