Ålesund. View of the port
The camera is installed in the municipality building of the Norwegian city of Alesund. We can see the houses on the shore of the Norwegian Sea, as well as the local port where big cruise ships and small tourist ships arrive regularly. This small town, with a population of about forty thousand people, has become a well-known tourist destination due to its architectural style; Aalesund is one of the few cities in the world built in the “Art Nouveau” style.
This city has a very mild climate due to its good location near the Gulf Stream. Alesund is located between the famous Geiranger Fjord (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the less popular but not less attractive, Hyurond Fjord.
The beautiful city, which you see on your screen, was built at the beginning of the twentieth century after a large fire destroyed many buildings of old Alesund. Therefore, almost the entire city was rebuilt from 1904 - 1907.
